No traffic incidents are shown

In order:

1. Did you ask for them? Incidents do not arrive by themselves. Tap Reports at the bottom, or ⟳ in the list.
2. Is a filter in the way? With Filter on switched on and a condition that matches nothing, the list is empty and looks exactly like a quiet road. Switch the filter off to check.
3. Does the view match? The list only shows what lies in the visible map view. Reload after panning the map.
4. Does it say "just fetched"? Thirty seconds sit between two fetches. Wait a moment.
5. Are you online? The dot in the status pill turns red and says Offline if not.
6. Is there really nothing? At night and on country roads an empty list is often the right answer. To sanity-check, zoom out a long way and reload.

My own position is not shown

• Permission. The system asks the first time you tap Position. If you declined back then, the question does not come again — it has to be granted in the system settings for the app.
• Location off entirely. If ACom reports "Location is switched off", the device's location service is disabled. That switch is in the system, not in the app.
• Inaccurate or sluggish? Check whether Settings → Save battery (network location) is on. In that mode the position comes from Wi-Fi and cell towers — good enough for "which town", not for bird view.
• The first fix takes time. GPS needs a few seconds under open sky after a start. In an underground car park, never.

The route check refuses

The common messages and what they mean are covered in detail in the help. Short version: either the destination is missing (search for a place), the start is missing (switch on Position), or the two are more than 1000 km apart.

The import from version 9 failed

If "Could not import old data" appears, your v9 data is not lost — the app only reads it, it does not change it. Try again restarts the process.

If it keeps failing, please write to us. Include your device and Android version and, if you know, how many maps version 9 had saved. This is the case we most want to be able to reproduce.

My saved maps are gone

In version 10 the 16 fixed slots became a list. It lives under ⋮ → My Maps, in the same order as before. Nothing is lost during the update.

If the list really is empty and you had maps before, see import. Clearing app data or uninstalling does remove the maps for good, though — they live only on the device, and we keep no copy.

Questions about advertising

Can I turn the ads off?

Not at present. The purchase option from version 9 no longer exists in version 10. Advertising pays, among other things, for the traffic data, which is billed per request.

I do not want personalised advertising.

Decline in the consent form. You will then see non-personalised ads and the app works unchanged. How to withdraw a consent already given is in the privacy policy.

The ad takes a long time to load.

Non-personalised ads can noticeably take longer. That is a known property, not a fault in ACom.

Battery and data use

• Keep screen on is the biggest item. Useful in a mount, better off otherwise.
• Bird view needs GPS continuously. For a plain traffic overview, Position is enough.
• Save battery (network location) reduces consumption noticeably, at the cost of accuracy.
• Data use comes mostly from map tiles. Traffic is only refreshed while the map is in the foreground — nothing runs in the background.

Does ACom work offline?

Only partly. Map tiles already loaded are shown from the system's own cache for a while, and your saved maps and settings are of course there. Traffic flow, incidents, search and the route check all need a connection. Without one, the status pill reads Offline and the app keeps retrying.

What version 10 no longer has

Deliberately dropped, not forgotten:

• The plugin manager and loading plugins from GitHub. Four of the five plugins did things the main map can do itself — they are now two switches and an incident list.
• The second TomTom map. It showed the same traffic a second time, in a second map engine.
• The purchase option. See advertising.
• The setting "refresh at most every … minutes". It set a budget for fetches nobody had asked for. Today things are fetched when you say so.
• Additional news sources in the informer (RSS, Twitter, websites).
